Penny Maas – Soprano

I joined the Oyster Singers in 2022, having moved to Chestfield after 40 years of following my husband around with his career in the Royal Air Force. Our last posting had been in Brussels, and I became involved with setting up a Belgian branch of the Military Wives Choir. Initially I thought I would be the choir pianist’s page turner as my singing experience amounted to little more than singing songs as an Early Years teacher, but as we were few in members and I met the criteria, my fellow singers were insistent I became a singer. So with some foreboding and fear at not being able to read music, I gave it my best shot- and absolutely loved it! 

Joining the Oyster Singers has been a joy. It’s a wonderful way to meet new people, and it is such a friendly, inclusive choir. I’m delighted to have taken the role of social secretary on the committee and look forward to engaging with opportunities that enhance our choir as well as engage and reach out with the local communit
